New Spring 2016 Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

Good afternoon loves! In today's post I am going to be talking about the new Makeup Geek eyeshadows that were launched for Spring 2016. MUG launched 18 new eyeshadows, 9 matte ones and 9 shimmers. I read so many mixed reviews online, which made me very curious so I had to try some of them out and see for myself. I picked up 7 shadows in total, which I ordered on beautybay.com. So if you're as curious as I was, and you want to know my honest opinion, thoughts and see some swatches, keep on reading!

Those of you who are familiar with Makeup Geek eyeshadows probably know that they come in magnetic pans, which you can put into a Z palette, or any other magnetized palette. Each pan comes in a small cardboard 'box', which has the Makeup Geek logo on it, and a fun black and white chevron design. The cardboard packaging has a see-through circle on the front and back, which makes it easy to see the shadows, as well as the shade name.

Here's a list of all 18 newly released shadows:

MATTE

  • Hopscotchbright iris with a matte finish
  • Tiki Hutmedium tawny brown with a matte finish
  • Tuscan Sun: medium salmon pink with a matte finish
  • Sand Dollar: porcelain pink gray with a matte finish
  • Taboo: ultra-deep raisin purple with a matte finish
  • Friend Zone: dusty purple brown with a matte finish
  • Wild West: rich rose brown with a matte finish
  • Brownie Points: cool milk chocolate with a matte finish
  • Fashion Addict: medium orchid purple with a matte finish

SHIMMER

  • Anarchy: medium marsala with a shimmery finish
  • Hot Pants: bright orchid with a purple shift and a shimmery finish
  • Chit Chat: medium periwinkle with a shimmery finish
  • Pillow Talk: soft lilac with a silver shift and a shimmery finish
  • Rebel: deep dusty purple with a gold overlay and a shimmery finish
  • Toxic: deep eggplant purple with a shimmery finish
  • Venom: deep moss green with a golden with a shimmery finish
  • Sin City: vibrant marigold with a shimmery finish
  • Casino: medium tangerine with a shimmery finish

Most of the shadows that were released have cooler undertones, but there are definitely a few warmer shades as well. I picked up 4 shimmery shadows, as well as 3 matte ones.

The thing I love about Makeup Geek, is that you can choose between so many different shadows, without having to buy shades that you don't really love, which is often the case with pre-made palettes. I wasn't head over heels in love with a few of the new shades, which is why I decided to only pick up 7 out of the 18 new shades, the ones I really loved.

❤ Rebel: a dusty purple with a gold shimmer.
❤ Pillow Talk: a cool-toned soft lilac with a silver shift and a shimmery finish.
❤ Toxic: a deep eggplant purple with a shimmery finish.
❤ Brownie Points: a cool-toned milk chocolate with a matte finish and subtle gray undertones.

Rebel felt so chalky and dry when I swatched it, but actually applied beautifully onto my eyelids! Pillow Talk and Toxic both are amazing, with a soft and smooth texture and decent pigmentation. Brownie Points was again very chalky and dry and I had to really build up the shadow on my eyelids to make it show up.

❤ Tiki Hut: a medium terracotta/mustard brown with a matte finish.
❤ Venom: a deep forrest green with a golden shimmer and a foiled finish.
❤ Tuscan Sun: a medium-toned salmon pink with a matte finish.

Tiki Hut and Tuscan Sun are both gorgeous matte shadows, with a smooth texture and great color pay-off. Venom was very soft and buttery, with amazing pigmentation and intensity.

My favorites are without a doubt Pillow Talk, Tiki Hut and Venom. Pillow Talk is so unique and such a fun color, I definitely didn't own anything like it before. Tiki Hut is one of those mustardy shades, which I adore to warm up my crease with and Venom is that perfect forrest green, which I tend to wear a lot with my brown eyes.

Rebel and Brownie Points were the two shadows that really disappointed me. I had to go over the swatches a bunch of times to make them look somewhat decent, which really let me down. But luckily, they did show up on my eyelids better than they swatched. Rebel was actually really beautiful and not chalky at all when I applied it.

To be honest, some of these shadows swatch horribly, which really let me down at first. But luckily, those shadows do apply better than they swatch and it turns out I actually quite like them! Other shadows both swatched and applied beautifully, just as I'm used to with Makeup Geek shadows.

The new Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans are available on beautybay.com here for €6,40 (1.8 g). You can also get them on the official Makeup Geek website, makeupgeek.com for $6, but keep in mind that you'll have to pay custom duties and shipping when ordering on their official website.
