Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar

Too Faced is one of my favorite brands when it comes to packaging, they always get it right. Also, most of the actual products I have loved as well. From the moment I saw that they were releasing the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar, which is the 'sequel' of the original Chocolate Bar palette, I was completely in love. Both of the chocolate bar palettes by Too Faced have become very popular but it's the second one that really got my attention. If you're interested in knowing my thoughts on this palette, keep on reading!

Similar to the original Chocolate Bar, the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar comes in a chocolate brown cardboard box that has gold detailing and looks like the packaging of a chocolate bar. It has pink and gold dots on it and looks so adorable and cute!

The palette itself is made out of metal and is a bit heavy. It looks like a straight up chocolate bar and has a big mirror inside. The palette closes magnetically and feels very sturdy. There are 16 shades in this palette, most of them warm-toned shadows. Most of the shades are very neutral with 1 pop of color.

The palette comes with a 'how to glamour guide' that tells you more about this palette and gives you a few makeup look ideas and how to achieve them, which is perfect for beginners or for those days when you have no inspiration whatsoever.

And as if the packaging isn't amazing enough, this palette actually smells like sweet cocoa powder! The scent goes away once you apply the shadows to your eyes, but opening up this palette is just so satisfying.

And now it's time for some swatches! I swatched the shadows one row at a time.

Licorice: a medium-dark black with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish.
❤ Coconut Crème: a warm beige with a warm creamy undertone and matte finish.
Nougat: a medium-dark peachy pink with warm undertones and a matte finish.
❤ Truffled: a medium-dark brown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish.
❤ Hot Fudge: a rich-dark brown with a hint of black/grey and a frosted finish.

Licorice is the black shade in this palette. The texture is a little bit on the chalky and dry side but once you build it up you can work with it. Coconut Crème is one of the two highlighting shadows in this palette and is perfect to set any eyeshadow base since it is very close to my natural skin-tone.The texture of Coconut Crème was just a little bit powdery. Nougat was also one of the shades I really have to build up, but I really like it! Truffled had a very nice pigmentation and was very easy to work with. And lastly Hot Fudge, which is really soft and perfectly blendeable and had a very smooth texture.

❤ Cocoa Chili: a dark brown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish.
❤ Pink Sugar: a pale pink with subtle yellow undertones with a glittery finish.
❤ Puddin': a muted, medium-dark brown with a hint of gray and a matte finish.
❤ Blueberry Swirl: a dark blue with a hint of black and purple to it and a soft, frosted finish.
❤ Peanut Butter: a medium orange with a hint of brown and a matte finish.
❤ Frosting: a bronzy brown with warm undertones and a frosted sheen.

Cocoa Chili has great pigmentation and feels very soft. Pink Sugar is a shade that I really hated in this palette. It's chalky, glittery and has tons of fall-out, what a waste. Pudding' was pigmented and very smooth. Blueberry Swirl was a bit more sheer then I expected it would be, so it did need a lot of building up. But once you build up this color it's very beautiful and intense. Peanut Butter is very pigmented and very smooth and blendeable. Frosting has really good color pay-off, although it felt just a little bit dry.

Rum Raisin: a medium-dark taupe brown with warm undertones and a metallic finish.
❤ Mousse: a medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish.
❤ Caramel: a golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic finish.
❤ Bon Bon: a medium copper with a hint of brown and a metallic finish.
❤ Butter Pecan: a light, pale gold with a frosted sheen.

Rum Raisin was very smooth and pigmented, as was Mousse and Caramel. Bon Bon and Butter Pecan did need some building up but they also had really soft and blendeable textures.

My favorite shades are definitely Peanut Butter and Mousse to use as transition shades. I also really adore Blueberry Swirl, although I do have to build up this shade to get it really intense. Butter Pecan is also a very pretty highlight shade and Rum Raisin is also one of my favorites.

One shadow I really didn't like was Pink Sugar. This shade just doesn't show up on my eyelids, it looks chalky and glittery and I just really don't like this.

Overall, I'm absolutely in love with the color selection of this palette. There's so many different looks you can create with this and you can really get creative with it. Most of the shadows are super blendeable, pigmented and just very easy to work with. These shadows do not crease on me and I didn't notice any fall-out.

This palette has become one of my most-used and favorite palettes ever. I love the shade selection, the packaging, the scent,... just everything about this palette. The only thing I would change about it is maybe add in a few more cooler-toned shadows and definitely get rid of Pink Sugar, I really don't get why they added this shade. For those of you who own the original Chocolate Bar palette: the Semi-Sweet Chocolate bar has a lot more warm-tones but the quality and feel of the palettes is definitely the same!

The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar is available on sephora.fr for €44 (13,3g). This seems like a lot of money but when you do the math it comes down to €2,75 for each shadow, which is actually really affordable. You do have to pay €10 shipping costs but if you order with a bunch of friends you can split the shipping which will make it a little bit more affordable. The shipping is relatively fast, I think it only took about 2 days to get here.
