MY STUDY TIPS

16 mei 2015 | 1 comment

One more week to go and I have my first exam of this semester. That means I'm at home studying and being lazy for another week. I was thinking about what post I should write today and thought it might be helpful to share some of my study tips with you. I'm the first to admit that I'm not the best student ever, but I do have some pretty great tips that have helped me survive my finals. For those wondering, I go to the Artevelde university college in Ghent and study communications management. I'm in my second year now and so far I have to retake 2 exams this Summer (like I said, not the best student ever, but not the worst either!). So If you're interested in knowing some my study tips, keep on reading!

A clean study area
The most annoying thing ever, at least for me, is messy spaces. I get really nervous and anxious when my study area isn't organized. That's why I recommend staying organized. Decorate your desk area (or wherever you study) with cute things and keep it clean and simple without too many distractions.

Fun and colorful notebooks
I'm a little kid when it comes to notebooks and pencils. I like to have cute and colorful things because it keeps me motivated and it's just more fun that way.

Flash cards
Whenever there are things that just won't go in my head, I write them down on flash cards. I wouldn't recommend writing flash cards for your whole class because that would take up way too much time, but make them just for things that can't get into your head anymore. That way, you can go over them before you go to bed and quickly look at them first thing in the morning.

Snacks
I need to have snacks by my side all the time. Studying can be super boring and with a little help of some of my favorite snacks, it gets a little bit more fun. I would recommend snacking on some nuts (I really can't stand nuts, but they're great for concentrating), fruits and dark chocolate. I also drink lots of water and tea while studying.

Studying with friends
What I really love doing is to get together with some of my friends from class and study together at the library for example. That way you're being social during breaks, you can motivate each other and ask questions about stuff you don't really get.

Treat yourself
One of the things that keeps me motivated is treating myself after a couple of pages. What I usually do is load some youtube videos and tell myself that I can watch one of the videos once I studied 10 pages.

Get enough sleep
I seriously can't function if I don't get enough sleep. It's hard enough as it is for me to stay focused, if I'm tiered it just won't work. That's why I recommend getting at least 8 hours of sleep during exams.

I hope these tips were helpful to you! Of course, you'll still need to do all of the actual studying but these are just some of the things that keep me motivated throughout my exams.
