ESSENCE 'VELVET ROSE' XXXL LONGLASTING MATT LIPGLOSS

34

Matte lip products seem to be all the rage these days, and I couldn't be more excited. More and more companies are coming out with their own version of liquid lipsticks lately and I wanted to try out some different brands. This one by Essence has been in their permanent collection for a while and I thought I would give it a try. I loved this shade called Velvet Rose and had to take it home with me.

The packaging is very basic and simple, yet it looks chic. The applicator is a dough-foot applicator, but a long one, which is a little bit clumsy to use if you ask me.

Velvet Rose is a gorgeous soft nude pink shade that would look beautiful on any skin-tone. I adore this shade, but actually hate the formula of this. It's not matte, I would describe it more as a creamy texture. But that texture is just too soft and slippery and it won't set on your lips. It does feel moisturizing and not drying at all, but I guess that's normal if it doesn't dry matte. That's also the reason why it doesn't stay on your lips for a very long time, maybe one hour at most. But as they say: you give a little, you get a little.

This matte lipgloss does have a sweet buttery scent to it. This scent reminds me a lot of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, as does the formula. The NYX ones dry more matte though and they stay on your lips for way longer than this one does.

Usually I'm a huge fan of Essence products, but this just wasn't a hit for me. The formula is off and I just don't like it the way I thought I would.  It's slippery, not matte at all and certainly not long-lasting. The shade on the other hand is beautiful and it's not drying at all. If you're interested in trying it out for yourself, you can buy Velvet Rose by Essence at Essence counters for €2,39 (4,5ml).
